ORIENTAL STEAK

Preparation Time:  25 Minutes                              

Cooking Time:  5 Minutes

Make Ahead:  You can prepare the
soy sauce/wine mixture and
marinate the beef up to 2 hours
ahead.

Serves 6

Serve with any of your favorite
fresh vegetables.

SHOPPING LIST

Soy Sauce, Cooking Wine, Flank Steak, Worcestershire Sauce,
Sugar, White Rice, Oil, Baking Soda

INGREDIENTS

1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon cooking wine
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/4 pounds flank steak or top loin steak, thinly sliced
3 cups white rice

  1. Combine soy sauce worcestershire sauce, wine, sugar, oil and baking soda in a large bowl and mix well.  Add the steak strips.  Let stand for 20 minutes.
  2. Cook the rice according to the package directions.  Fluff with a fork and cover to keep warm.
  3. Preheat the broiler and remove the steak from the marinade and arrange on a broiler pan.  Broil the steak, turning once until it is medium rare (about 5 minutes).
  4. Spoon the rice on a serving platter and arrange the steak over the rice.  Serve immediately.

VARIATION

Serve the sliced steak over chow mein noodles for a great oriental meal.

EXPRESS COOKING

For easy slicing and to retain the most tenderness from the steak, slice the steak thinly across the grain and cook only until medium rare.

MONEY SAVING TIPS

Use a top round for this great and easy recipe.  It is tender but is lower in price than other cuts of meat.  Marinating tenderizes the meat making it unnecessary to use a more expensive cut of beef.
